To be eligible for the R2B Pilot Grant, the following criteria must be met:

• You are an employee at Aalborg University
• Your application must be centered around a disclosed technology or software invention.
• All rights for the invention have been consigned to Aalborg University
• At the time of applying, you have a business developer from the Technology Transfer Office allocated to your project, and you have informed them of your intention to apply. You will be assigned a Business Developer when you disclose your invention.
• All applications must follow the requirements in the application template.

You cannot apply if:

• Your project is centered around basic research.
• Your project is older than 4 years (from the date of disclosure).
• Your project has received larger grants (DKK 1.000.000 and above) within the last 6 months.

TYPE 1 PROJECT

Up to DKK 100.000 with a maximum project duration of 4 months.

The purpose of a type 1 project can, for example, be to help clarify the invention in order to limit both the technical and commercial risks.

TYPE 2 PROJECT

Up to DKK 250.000 with a maximum project duration of 8 months.

A type 2 project includes activities to develop, quality-test, and verify an invention. In other words; maturation and documentation of an invention's technological and commercial potential.

The funds can, for example, be used to carry out technical trials and prototype tests with the purpose of documenting the potential of a new technology and to uncover application possibilities and market potential, to develop a business model, and to engage commercial partners in the further development of a new research-based invention.

No co-financing is required on either projects.

The R2B Pilot Grant can be used to:

• Buy out of researchers, Ph.D., and scientific assistants from teaching and research, for the purpose of focusing on the development of the invention.
• Employ project workers who can work focused on the invention together with the researchers.
• Purchase, operate or lease necessary equipment and materials.
• Travel expenses for own staff and external consultants.
• Purchase of external services - feasibility studies, trials, development of prototypes, market research, preparation of business plan, etc. and to involve external assistance for market assessment and commercialization of the invention.

The application assessment will, among others, be based on the following requirements:

• Clarity of the problem and solution (the technology/software).
• Business model and commercial potential.
• The team centered around the proposed project.

Remember that this is an innovation grant, and your application should reflect that.

The Pitch Event

• You will have 15 minutes to pitch and 10 minutes of Q&A.
• Physical attendance is required, however, employees from AAU Esbjerg and AAU Copenhagen campuses may pitch online.
• You choose your own pitch deck, although, you may benefit from using the basis from the application form.

You apply by downloading the application form and sending the completed application to the Business Developer assigned to your project upon disclosure.
