What is AAU Proof of Concept?

An invention can hold significant commercial potential even at an early stage. However, it often requires further development to become attractive for investment, sale, or licensing. As a result, investors and private companies are typically hesitant to support early-stage, research-based ventures. To address this challenge, we've established the AAU Proof of Concept (PoC) grant, designed specifically to bridge the gap between promising research and commercial readiness.

The AAU PoC grant aims to accelerate the commercial maturation of inventions by supporting activities such as:

  • Buy out of researchers, Ph.D., and scientific assistants from teaching and research, for the purpose of focusing on the development of the invention.
  • Employ project workers who can work focused on the invention together with the researchers.
  • Purchase, operate or lease necessary equipment and materials.
  • Travel expenses for own staff and external consultants.
  • Purchase of external services - feasibility studies, trials, development of prototypes, market research, preparation of business plan, etc. and to involve external assistance for market assessment and commercialization of the invention.
